Elmast Kozloyan is a poet trapped in limbo between magic and reality (though seldom chooses the latter). At the age of fifteen won the silver medal for poetry in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and since then has released her debut chapbook, Doe Eyed Venus (available through Sadie Girl Press), co-hosts Moon Pixel Open Mic, and has been published in places such as Cadence Collective, Poetry in Motion, Pacific Review, the East Jasmine Review and Los Angeles Times. Her work has also appeared in Cadence Collective: Year One and Year Two, Like A Girl: The Pre-Show!, and Like a Girl: Perspectives on Feminine Identity.
We’re going to AWP!! This year the Association of Writers & Writing Programs is having its annual conference in downtown LA. Together with our sister press, Lucid Moose Lit, we will be stationed at booth 857 at the conference mega Book Fair on Thursday, March 31st through Saturday, April 2nd. We will have books, author signings, and more. SGP authors Raquel Reyes-Lopez, JL Martindale, and Daniel McGinn will be joining myself, Sarah Thursday, and Nancy Lynée Woo, with additional guests, such as K. Andrew Turner and Beth McIlvaine. This is a huge event that requires paid admission, but if you are one of the over 12,000 people attending, we’d love to have you come by and say hello!

On December 4th & 5th, Sadie Girl Press will be joining Lucid Moose Lit for the bi-annual Uptown Village Market at the Expo Center in Bixby Knolls. Beginning with the monthly First Fridays event from 6-9 pm, and continuing on Saturday, December 5th from 11-5, we will have a table set up in the Expo Center with our books to sell, information about our projects, and clothing collection drive for a local women’s shelter.
On Saturday, from 2-4, we will join liz gonzález of the Uptown Word Reading & Art Series for a special event called “Women Word Workers”, featuring local Long Beach women making an impact in the literacy scene. Nancy Lynée Woo, liz gonzález, and myself, Sarah Thursday, will read our work and share what we are doing for our community. There will also be an open mic for anyone to share a poem, song, story, or other form of expression.

Fernando Gallegos is a Long Beach artist born and raised. He is heavily inspired by the human form and always searching to evoke the feeling of movement and emotion. He loves the power of the brain, to take a simple stroke of color on paper and piece it together to an image with depth and feeling. He has illustrated many projects for Sadie Girl Press including the entire yearbook sections of Cadence Collective Anthology: Year One and Year Two, the cover of The Unnamed Algorithm, the cover and illustrations for bar napkins for beginners and The Language I Was Broken In: a Sadie Girl Press Sampler. He has also contributed art and poetry to our sister press, Lucid Moose Lit, in the anthologies Gutters & Alleyways: Perspectives on Poverty and Struggle, Like A Girl: The Pre-Show! Terry Ann Wright recently received her master’s degree from Goddard College, a progressive school that emphasizes community activism and democratic education. She has written and published poetry exclusively for the last fifteen years, receiving two nominations for the Pushcart Prize in the process. She spends her days ridding the world of comma splices, and nights planning food-based road trips and sometimes writing. Her poetry has appeared most recently in the journals Carnival, East Jasmine Review, Cadence Collective, and in the anthologies Cadence Collective: Year One and Year Two, Gutters & Alleyways: Perspectives on Poverty and Struggle, Like A Girl: The Pre-Show!, Like a Girl: Perspectives on Feminine Identity, and Then & Now:Conversations with Old Friends. Kelsey Bryan-Zwick is a poet, a bookbinder, and an artist from Long Beach, CA. As a child she lived in Spain where she fell in love with the smell of fresh bread, green olives, and learned to speak Spanish. At UCSC she received a B.A. in Literature/Creative Writing-Poetry. Kelsey participated in Write Bloody Publishing’s Dirty Dozen Workshop and is a recent Pushcart Prize nominee. Her poems appear in A Poet Is A Poet, No Matter How Tall: EPISODE II Attack of the Poems, East Jasmine Review, Like a Girl: The Pre-Show! and Like a Girl: Perspectives on Feminine Identity and Development, The Camel Saloon, and both Cadence Collective Anthology: Year One and Year Two, and Then & Now: Conversations with Old Friends. JL Martindale writes stuff. Sometimes it’s stuff about bootleg theft, motherhood or peanut butter. Sometimes she isn’t sure what she’s writing about. She’s honored to have poetry published with Cadence Collective, Bank Heavy Press, Lucid Moose Press, A Poet is a Poet anthologies and more.
Daniel McGinn’s work has appeared numerous anthologies and publications including Bank Heavy, Lummox, Silver Birch Press, Lucid Moose Lit, the OC Weekly, Next Magazine, Freeze Ray, Spillway, Aim For the Head, Rip Rap, Amethyst Arsenic, Incandescent Mind, and others. His full length collection of poems, 1000 Black Umbrellas, was released by Write Bloody Press. He’s had five chapbooks published as part of the Laguna Poets chapbook series. Daniel has an MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Along with Mifanwy Kaiser, he teaches writing workshops at the Orange County Rescue Mission. He and his wife, Lori McGinn, are natives of Southern California. They have 3 children, 6 grandchildren and a very good dog.
