Call for Selfish Art and Photography

Press News!, Submission Calls

Issue three of Incandescent Mind is looking for selfish art and photography. Artists can send in creative interpretations of the self portrait OR can be included in a special project to create work in response to the selected writings. Incandescent Mind is a full-color print journal, with poetry and prose. We prefer work that is raw, personal, emotional, and/or vulnerable.

Submissions for Art will close April 30th, 2017.

Submissions can be taken through this form:
cognitoforms.com/SadieGirlPress1/IncandescentMindSelfishIssue
(If you have trouble, please email us at SadieGirlPress@gmail.com)

We’re looking for art related to the topic of selfish work, possibly self-portraits (realistic or abstract), or other work that reveals your self. This is not limited to a typical face portrait, but can be of other perspectives of the self. It can be yourself at a different age, such as a child or older than you are now. It can reveal alternate versions of yourself. It can be an image that reveals what is inside of you. Feel free to be creative, but we want work that tells a story about you.

We are also looking for artists who would like to create work in reaction to the selected writing pieces. When the final writing pieces have been chosen, you would receive a copy of all the writing. If a piece inspires you, you can create a piece in reaction to it. If you are interested, email us at SadieGirlPress@gmail.com and we will contact you with the details.

We would love paintings, drawings, photography, digital art, collage, etc. in color or black and white, or any mediums that transfer well as a jpg or png file. If you aren’t sure, send us what you have and we’ll let you know! You may submit up to 10 high resolution images (200 dpi). Please include titles with your images (preferably in the file names).

Include a 100-word max, 3rd person bio with website or social media contact information where people can learn more about you.

Artists will retain the rights to their individual work. We do not offer payment other than one complimentary contributor copy.

For more details and updates, please join the Facebook event.

Submission Call for Incandescent Mind: Selfish Issue

Press News!, Submission Calls

Incandescent Mind is opening submissions for selfish work. We want you to write poems, letters, reflections, postcards, etc. addressed to your younger self, current self, or future self. It can be a love letter, a warning, a celebration, an insight. Only guide is that it be addressed to yourself. Artists can address this same prompt OR can be included in a special project to create work in response to the selected writings. For writing or art, we prefer work that is raw, personal, emotional, and/or vulnerable. Submissions will close on March 31st.

Submissions will now be taken through this form:
https://www.cognitoforms.com/SadieGirlPress1/IncandescentMindSelfishIssue

Writing: We’re open to style, but want to feel the connection to the topic. We’re open to length and form of poetry, but keep it under 100 lines (including stanza breaks). We don’t prefer rhyming poetry, unless very well crafted. We’d love to have well written and edited short prose in creative forms (under 500 words) on the topic. Please submit up to 3 poems or prose pieces in a Word or PDF file. We are looking for previously unpublished work, but will be open to considering special pieces. Simultaneous submissions are fine as long as we are notified immediately if work is accepted elsewhere.

Art: To address the prompt, we’d love art related to the topic, possibly self-portraits (realistic or abstract). We are open to paintings, drawings, photography, digital art, collage, etc. in color or black and white, any mediums that transfer well as a jpeg or png file. If you aren’t sure, send us what you have and we’ll let you know! You may submit up to 10 high resolution images (200 dpi). You may submit art in addition to poetry or prose. Please include titles with your images (preferably in the file names).

We are also looking for artists who would like to create work in reaction to the selected writing pieces. After you fill out the form, we will contact you with the details.

Include a 100-word max, 3rd person bio with website or social media contact information where people can learn more about you.

We reserve the right to make very minor edits to pieces as needed (to keep consistency in mechanics), but may ask for revision for a piece we love enough to see improve. Authors and artists will retain the rights to their individual work. We do not offer payment other than one complimentary contributor copy. Additional copies can be ordered at a discounted price.
